Here's the part people miss. A tensile roof is never flat. The fabric gets pulled into a double curve, a saddle or a cone, and that curvature is doing structural work. Reading the Weather: Why Fabric Works Here

Frames get engineered for wind load, live load and the membrane's own pre-stress, then coated against corrosion. Hot-dip galvanising, or a zinc primer with a PU topcoat. Foundations are what general builders get wrong, and it's an honest mistake. The instinct is to size a footing for weight pressing down. But in a wind event a tensile canopy pulls up. The whole structure tries to leave. Design for uplift or don't bother.

Fabrication is less forgiving than anything else in the process. Patterns are cut from a form-finding model with compensation built in for how much the fabric stretches under tension. When You Should Not Build a Tensile Roof
